Activist Medha Patkar, who had supported Anna Hazare’s agitation on Lokpal, said that getting one bill passed will not bring about any major change, and mass movements should have a more comprehensive outlook about progress and democracy.
Any mass movement should not be restricted to just getting one law passed, she said, referring to Team Anna’s fervent efforts to get the Jan Lokpal Bill passed.
If the movement ends when one bill is passed, then we won’t see any change, Patkar said while speaking at a function organised at A N Sinha institute here.
She claimed that a few people in power were usurping all the public wealth, while scams were being pushed under the carpet.
The debate about development should include fundamental requirements of people, she said.
