The National Alliance of People’s Movements (NAPM) has condemned the action of Experts Appraisal Committee (EAC) on thermal projects in reviewing recently, the Kakarapalli thermal power project taken up near Naupada in Srikakulam district, in a superficial manner without regard for the lives of the affected people.
In a statement here on Friday, K. Babu Rao, advisor, NAPM, demanded the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests not to take any decision based on the EAC recommendations but go by public opinion.
He said the committee had unjustly recommended to the Ministry to rescind the stop-work order issued to the developers of the power project.
The whole exercise of the review was an eye-wash. The NAPM advisor said the State Government’s Special Secretary, Environment, and other officials, including Srikakulam District Revenue Officer, who attended the review meeting held in “air-conditioned comfort”, had misrepresented facts and made adverse remarks against agitating people.
He said the EAC was biased in its proceedings as it tried to uphold the decision of the previous such committee.
