NAPM AP and Sompeta Paryavarana Parirakshana Samiti
Invite your participation in
“Bhutalli Panduga” (The mother earth festival) in Sompeta, Srikakulam
District, Andhra Pradesh on 8-10 th March 2013.
The People’s movement of Sompeta against the Thermal Power Project of
Nagarjuna Construction Company for the past three and half years is
ushering a new revolution in the people of the district. From having given
their lives to the bullets of the police and continuing a Relay Hunger
Strike for more than 1000 days, the people of Sompeta have learnt that
merely opposing “destructive models of development” is not enough. And have
thus embarked on the path of “reconstruction and change” by first moving
away from the grid and opting for decentralized Solar Power and public
transport over private transport to using of Handloom over mill fabrics and
from chemical farming to Organic Farming.
However, this needs to be brought more and more into public domain.
With this objective we are organizing the Mother Earth Festival that will
showcase all alternatives that will save the earth and her children from
the current destructive paradigms of development – native seeds, natural
farming practices, food stalls, but also all eco-friendly alternatives like
handlooms, khadi, energy conservation to using of decentralized solar
home lighting systems, solar cookers etc, locally made straw products
and other hand made goods and Rural Innovations that are useful in the
day to day life.
We will also have small discussion meetings during the day on some
important issues like localising food production, issues of handloom
and water and energy conservation
Film screenings in the evening on the destructive practices and the
We, there fore request you to participate in this festival by
