GUWAHATI, May 3 – The size of the scam related to the grabbing of agricultural land by land sharks in Kamrup district has the potential to emerge as the biggest of the kind in the country. The monetary worth of the scam is around Rs 1,000 crore and it involves around 5,000 bighas of agricultural land, claimed the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) here today.
Addressing a press conference, KMSS president Akhil Gogoi alleged that with the patronization of powerful people like Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Health MinisterHimanta Biswa Sarma, land sharks Suresh Prithani, Kailash Lohia and Ramavatar Bhorakia have grabbed huge farmland areas.
Demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into the case, Gogoi also pleaded for bringing Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma under the ambit of investigation.
He also apprised the media persons that the KMSS would move both the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate in this connection.
Gogoi alleged that in case No. 10/05 of the CBI Special Court, two officials of the Brahmaputra Infrastructure Consortium Pvt Ltd owned by Suresh Prithani, were charge-sheeted by the CBI for misappropriation of a huge sum of ASCARD Bank money in the name of sinking shallow tube wells.
