The Times Of India, Nov 3 2014, Vijayawada: Upping the ante, farmers of capital city region have decided to take their battle against Chandrababu Naidu government to the national level as they have roped in green activists, Vandana Siva and Medha Patkar into the struggle. The farmers, who have been opposing the land pooling for capital, invited the social activists to their villages as they resolved to take on the government’s pressure tactics’ with equal force.
Both Medha Patkar and Vandana Siva were expected to visit the villages in Tullur mandal of Guntur district next week.
“Medha Patkar and Vandana Siva have expressed shock over the way the government is planning to pool the land for capital city. They will join our movement and promised to take the issue to the national level,” Krishna delta parirakshana samithi convenor Kolanukonda Sivaji told ‘TOI.’
He said that they wanted to take the cooperation of national level leaders in order to exert pressure on the government from taking the green fields for realty business. He said that the government was violating all the rules and breaking laws to benefit the realtors and construction big wigs by doing gross injustice to the farming sector, which supported Naidu in the last elections.
“Naidu’s real colours were thoroughly exposed as he had no mercy for the farmers, who are toiling day and night to keep the state green,” he said. He asked to how construction of parks and resorts would help the farmers and production of food grains in the state. “Trying to take over the lands without conducting the environment impact assessment is a blatant violation of the law,” fumed Sivaji.
