MUMBAI: The Mumbai Sarvoday Mandal, a well-known Gandhian organization has decided to support the movement for land rights for the poor.
On May 7, it has organized a meeting in Mumbai to garner public support in the metropolis for the cause.
“Food insecurity and farmer’s suicides are critical issues today. These hardships and the destruction in villages caused due to the entry of big companies into rural areas and the large-scale acquisition of agricultural land has led to loss of livelihoods and deep insecurity,” said a spokesperson for the mandal.
In 2007, around 25,000 people affected by land acquisition had marched for a month from Gwalior to Delhi. A similar march, this time with one lakh people will be organized in October this year, said the spokesperson.
