Govt forgot common man, says Aruna Roy.Activist Aruna Roy on Friday accused the UPA government of being indifferent to the travails of common man. In a statement issued at a time when the Congress, leader of the UPA, is holding Chintan Shivir at Jaipur, she said no concern is evident on the issues of common man and their rights. She alleged that the government is not inclined to implement Right to Information (RTI) and MGNREGA, the laws it has passed. “All the top leaders are organising the Chintan Camps, but no concern is evident on the issues of common man and their rights,” she said. She said the expenditure on MGNREGS has gone down and the number of beneficiaries is being reduced. Despite court orders, minimum wages are not being disbursed for MGNREGS workers, she added. “The government has failed to fulfil its election promise to bring Food Safety Laws and has failed in creating a Public Distribution System in lieu of cash transfer and is trying to extinguish other grant systems,” she said. She criticised the government over the delay in passing laws related to effective Lokpal, Whistleblower’s protection and Complaint Disposal. She said this has “formed the image that the government is snatching all natural resources from public to hand over to companies”.
