CHENNAI: National Human Rights Commission has issued a directive to the senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Tiruvallur district to take action over a complaint of alleged foisting of false cases against dalit activists in Thervoy.
In a letter to the senior superintendent of police, Tiruvallur district, NHRC said that the authority concerned should ‘act’ on the complaint by Y Aruldoss, youth coordinator of National Alliance of People’s Movement, over alleged filing of false cases against dalit activists.
“The complaint be transmitted to the authority concerned for such action as deemed appropriate,” the NHRC said in its directive.
The NHRC directive came in the wake of massive struggle against a State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) bid to acquire 1,127 acres of land at Thervoy Kandigai village in Gummidipoondi taluk in Thiruvalluvar district.
Arul had alleged in his letter to the NHRC chairman that false complaints had been filed against dalit activists in several instances, including alleged obstruction of work. He alleged that a few dalit activists were still in a jail in Ponneri. He had sought action against those who perpetrated HR violation on dalit activists who were allegedly protesting against the destruction of forest, right to land and right to livelihood.
