Pune: Member of the Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA), Medha Patkar, said in the backdrop of the wrong policies of the government relating to land and natural resources, the incident of a youth slapping the Union agriculture minister, Sharad Pawar, was “very small”.
Patkar was reacting to the incident in Pune on Thursday, where she was present for a strategy meeting on the Lavasa project.
Although Patkar condemned the attack in strong words, she said that for years together politicians had misused their positions and indulged in “rampant corruption in the form of land grab and illegal exploitation of natural resources”.
“The incident of a commoner attacking a minister is an indicator of the great unrest amongst the general public. If rampant corruption and exploitation is not stopped, society would face greater unrest,” she cautioned.
