PRESS RELEASE MARCH 7, 2011
NAPM is aware of and extends solidarity to the people’s uprisings in the Arab states of the Middle East and North Africa, that are demanding freedom and the removal of US-supported or US-aided dictatorships. The democratic movements in the region are truly historic and inspiring for people across the world fighting against the hegemony of governments and multinational corporations.
We urge the Government of India to issue unequivocal statements in support of all such people’s movements reflecting the democratic expressions of the people for a truly representative and democratic government. .
We apprehend that the conflicts within the Arab states, and Libya in particular, will be intensified by the military intervention of US or NATO military forces. NAPM demands that India should not be involved in any such military intervention including providing logistic support for military intervention.
NAPM further demands that India should not send any contingents or elements of the Indian Army, Indian Navy or Indian Air Force for such assignments or missions that will align India’s foreign policy with that of any foreign country or organization.
