The candle vigil in the memory of Iqlakh who lost his life in the hands of communal forces happened in front of the tomb of the prophet – MK Gandhi who lost his life in the hands of same communalists.
According to anthropologist K.S Singh, only 20% of Indian population is vegetarian (in his seminal work, Peoples of India).
“Why should Muslims, Christians, dalits and anyone who considers beef as a valid constituent of his/her diet be afraid of the hindutwa fatwa against beef consumption?” asked Singh.
The murder of Aqlakh needs to seen in the likes of Muzaffarnagar, Babri and Gujarat pogroms where mobs have taken the law in their hands and police has remained a mute spectator. NAPM in press release said it proved that these stray incidents are part of a larger conspiracy to incite violence on a national level to terrorize certain communities.
When NAPM’s Vimal Bhai and Shabnam tried to visit Aqlakhs family in Dadri, they were stopped by the same mobs who also attacked NDTV’s entourage, the release said further.
Various individuals, organizations and peoples movements are coming together to strategize and take definitive actions against this communal agenda of hatred and fascism.
