Dear Friends, On 30th May 2012, over 600 people from 10 Grama Panchayats under Erasama block converged at Nuaratanpur village in Kunjakothi Panchayat and opposed the new proposal of construction of wooden bridge over Mahanga river for the proposed POSCO project. Mr. Pitambar Das, Convenor of Jatadhar Bachao Andolan ( Anti-Port POSCO Movement ) presided over the meeting. Villagers shared that they will intensify stir against the construction of the wooden bridge. For the first time, people from 10 Panchayat’s had gathered to oppose in a single platform for opposing the POSCO work. This is for your information that in the year 2007, the administration had taken similar initiative constructing the same wooden bridge at Ratanpur but failed owing steep resistance of our people. As you may know, Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) had selected coastal road from Paradeep to the proposed POSCO site to transport construction and other materials for POSCO related work. As we strongly resisted against the construction work of the coastal road, their plan was measurably failed. As an alternative, IDCO has reselected to construct a new road from Erasama to the proposed POSCO area for said purposes. The proposed bridge would certainly help POSCO work as communication will be opened between Sahadamatha to Bhuyanpala of Gadakujanga Gram Panchayat, as we are opposing the POSCO project since years, in no circumstances will allow construction of this bridge. Meanwhile our protest is continuing in the Govindpur village boarder opposing POSCO project. Kindly circulate this mail widely.
In Solidarity,
Prashant Paikaray,
